Nuclei as Laboratories: Nuclear Tests of Fundamental Symmetries


Nuclei continue to provide unique opportunities for studying the fundamental symmetries of the Standard Model and looking for those beyond it. In this talk, I discuss several areas in which nuclei will continue to serve as important "laboratories" for carrying out these tests. In particular, I consider tests of time-reversal invariance and what they may teach us about the origin of baryonic matter; parity-invariance and what new insights they may provide about weak interactions of quarks; and lepton number conservation and what such tests may teach us about the properties of neutrinos as well as the flavor structure of the "new" Standard Model.
