Shifted Contour Monte-Carlo method for Nuclear Structure
The shell model is one of the most successful descriptions of
many-fermion systems including atomic nuclei. I will outline the
difficulties in the framework of the conventional shell model
diagonalization when approaching heavy systems (A>60).
Furthermore, I will discuss the Auxiliary-field Shell Model Monte
Carlo (SMMC) as our choice for reaching the properties of such
nuclei of interest and the challenges in this approach. We
demonstrate a promising development within the SMMC method that uses
a shifted contour of integration to alleviate the Monte Carlo sign
problem when performing calculations with realistic Hamiltonians. I
will discuss the foundation of this new method, as applied to the
nuclear many-body problem.
