Pair correlations and clustering in extended nuclear systems


I will discuss the pairing properties of infinite nuclear systems within a continuum Green's function theory which takes into account explicitely the meson dynamics and non-adiabatic retardadtion effects. The response of nuclear systems to weak probes, in particular the neutrino radiation reactions needed in neutron star cooling simulations will be presented. I will then discuss recent Monte-Carlo simultaions of alpha clusters on a lattice within an effective scalar field theory. The equation of state of alpha matter and the interplay between the Bose-Einstein condensation of alpha particles and pairing in the quasi-deutron channel will be discussed.
