Chiral PerturbationTheory, Models, and the Lattice: Different views, the same physics

Consideration of the analytic properties of pion-induced hadron self-energies leads to new functional forms for the extrapolation of light hadron masses. These functional forms reproduce the leading non-analytic behaviour of chiral perturbation theory, the correct non-analytic behaviour at the hadron-pion threshold and the appropriate heavy-quark limit. The parameters in these forms may be obtained by fitting to available lattice data. We have used these functions to examine the systematic error of traditional naive extrapolations, probe the limit of applicability of chiral perturbation theory and to compare with model predictions.
