Fritz Coester Celebration

A celebration of Fritz Coester's 60+ years in physics was held at the University of Iowa in Iowa City on September 30 and at the nearby Winds Reach Farm on October 1, 2005. The program was organized by his daughter, Susan Coester Daufeldt, and by his Iowa colleague, Wayne Polyzou. A series of scientific talks were given at the Physics Department on the first day, and several more personal talks were given at the farm on the second day, including a short rebuttal by Fritz.

Warbonnet

Fritz is credited* with the First Ascent in 1953 of Warbonnet Peak
by the East Face, Right Route and also the First Ascent of Mitchell
Peak by the West Gully Route. These peaks are in the famous Cirque
of the Towers at the southeast end of the Wind River Range, Wyoming.

To commemorate his achievements at the highest level of physics and
mountaineering, the Argonne Theory Group presented Fritz with this
picture of Warbonnet by landscape photographer Willie Holdman.
