The ALERT Experiments: EIC nuclear physics before the EIC
Argonne Physics Division Seminar - Thursday, 15 Dec 2016, 10:00AM
Building 203, Conference Room R-150

In nuclear physics the basic units of structure for building nuclei are the neutrons and protons, whose underlying structure is built from the quarks and gluons of QCD. Our understanding of this QCD structure underlying the nucleon continues to present challenges experimentally and theoretically. We propose a new set of experiments using a low energy recoil tracker (ALERT) to elucidate the origins of the EMC effect and study other nuclear effects. A fresh perspective on the partonic structure of light nuclei will be discussed in order to emphasize importance of these measurements to the future nuclear physics program possible with an EIC.
