Through the Looking Glass: the New Electroweak Frontier
Physics Division Colloquium - 12 May 2000

The study of the parity-violating nature of the force experienced by electrons is entering a new era of unprecedented precision. Novel experimental techniques are being employed to search for new fundamental forces, to study the weak magnetism of the proton, and to elucidate the role of strange quark-antiquark pairs in nucleon structure. These experiments involve precise measurements of small effects associated with parity admixtures in atomic states or the helicity dependence in electron scattering rates. In this colloquium, the present status and future prospects of this diverse and challenging experimental program will be explored.
