QCD on a chip

Lattice QCD provides an increasingly well-controlled and accurate description of the low energy properties of quarks and gluons. The innovative numerical methods which permit this increased precision require large computing resources. The QCDOC Project (quantum chromodynamics on a chip) exploits the characteristics of lattice QCD to provide a cost-effective computing platform at the scale of tens of teraflops. In this talk these new numercial methods will be summarized and the architecture, performance and status of the QCDOC project presented.
