The equation of state of neutron star matter and gravitational wave emission

The equation of state of neutron star matter, i.e. the relation linking pressure to energy density, largely determines both the star equilibrium properties and the oscillation frequencies associated with gravitational wave emission. I will briefly review the present status of theoretical models of the EOS and discuss the results of recent calculations suggesting that detection of GW emitted from neutron stars may provide valuable insight on the properties of strongly interacting matter at high density.
