I.C. Procedure for Working at Argonne

Researchers who wish to become users of Argonne accelerator facilities are required to complete certain forms. The processing normally takes about two weeks from the time the application forms are received by the Argonne Physics Division. For citizens from a few countries who wish to visit for more than one week a considerably longer time may be required to secure the necessary approval. It is recommended that new users contact the Physics Division at least 4 weeks before their scheduled arrival. In order to obtain the necessary forms contact:

Barbara Weller Physics Division, Building 203 Argonne National Laboratory 9700 S. Cass Ave. Argonne, IL 60439 (Telephone: (630)252-4044, email: [email protected])

Upon processing of the forms a badge will be issued, which you may pick up at the Visitors Reception Center on your first visit, allowing you access to the Argonne site. The registration of a user with the Laboratory is normally valid for a period of approximately two years and can be renewed upon request.

If on-site lodging is wanted, the Physics Division should be contacted as far in advance as possible to ensure that rooms are available and reservations can be made (see section on Travel and Lodging).

If radioactive sources are to be brought on site, Special Materials and Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) Divisions must be informed prior to arrival (see section on Safety).

If an outside user group wishes to make use of Argonne's stockroom or services (e.g., machine shops, Electronics Division, riggers, etc.) an account should be set up. (See Appendix 1: Setting up an Account for Services at Argonne.)

An ATLAS Users Room in Bldg. 203 is available for office space. If secretarial help is needed, the user should contact Barbara Weller (2-4044). Two bunk rooms adjacent to the ATLAS control room are available for experimentalists who wish to remain near the experiment. For information regarding Argonne facilities (e.g., libraries, computer facilities, etc.) contact the User Liaison Physicist.

It is understood that all visitors will comply with the Laboratory procedures and supply any additional information which the Laboratory may require.
