III.B.1. Layout

The layout of Target Area II is shown in Figure III.1. There are six beam lines, with two of the beam lines containing two experimental stations. The +19 degree beam line (leading to the 65" scattering chamber) houses the time-of-flight energy measuring system which can be used if an accurate measurement of the beam energy is required. (This system uses a pair of beam detection resonators to determine the beam transitions over a known distance. A second pair of beam detection resonators on the zero degree line have also been installed and will provide energy determinations for all experimental stations in Target Area II. Energy determination of better than a part in 10-3 is possible with this system.) The various pieces of experimental apparatus in Target Area II are discussed in their subsections.
