The Argonne Tandem-Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS) is located at Argonne National Laboratory and consists of a 9-MV FN tandem Van de Graaff Injector, a Superconducting Positive-Ion Injector, and two Superconducting Linac Accelerators. This system accelerates ion species up to uranium.
The research facility is open to any prospective user. Persons interested in obtaining beam time must submit a written proposal which will be reviewed by a Program Advisory Committee (PAC). The recommendations of the PAC are the primary basis for allocation of beam time.
The facility provides without cost heavy-ion beams, many major pieces of experimental apparatus, and the available electronics and computer facilities for data taking. In general, other costs will be borne by the user. For details the user should contact the liaison person associated with the specific area of concern.
All individuals should be registered ANL users prior to arrival on site to perform an experiment. Persons interested in obtaining registration forms, in obtaining more detailed information regarding the facilities, or in being placed on the mailing lists for the Call for Proposals or the Users Newsletter should contact:
