III.B.4. Electron Spectrometer

A superconducting magnet electron spectrometer constructioned at Purdue University (Profs. Daly and Grabowski) is part of the spectroscopic tools for studies at the linac.

The magnet system is a set of NbTi solenoids on a horizontal axis, consistingof a split pair to provide a target field and long solenoids extending thisaxial field in both directions. A flat field along a 500 mm length, variableup to 2 Tesla can be obtained with the same current in all coils. Alternativefield profiles are possible using various current combinations. The powersupplies allow the field to be swept rapidly. The spectrometer is similarto those existing at H.M.I. Berlin, K.F.A. Julich and Lawrence Livermore Lab(installed at Los Alamos Lab).
